A deprived language
now a dialect
my grandmother tongue
An attempt to get to know
the words
in sound, in sense
In its essence.
In this project I have used different materials and techniques to process words in Elfdalian, the dialect from my home village. The words are linked to the forest and its inhabitants. I am looking for a language in history, in the present and in the unspoken. I investigate the effect this has had on my own relationship to the dialect and the identity tied to it.
Through my work, I explore and express my relationship to my home village and the different dimensions of that place. Stories that connect the present with the past, fiction and the world of the senses, with the role of the forest in life and in society – both as a physical and as a metaphorical source of different narratives.
The project is presented as a book together with an accompanying object.
