Happy People and Clean Tablecloths
This project is an exploration of how my design methods and visual language can build on the traditions of Swedish Modernism in furniture design. I wanted to capture and challenge its spirit, its culture and its values in a series of furniture that responds to our present day knowledge of materials and understanding of societal needs.
My approach was inspired by the organisers of the Stockholm Exhibition of 1930 for whom Swedishness was not the copying of outdated stylistic decors but rather the continuation of an honest design practice of accepting the available reality of the time. My hope for these furniture pieces is not only to function as objects but as a medium to spark a dialogue about the way we redefine ourselves and how we want to live.
