Eva Vei

Blyertspenna

inkjet prints, framed, various sizes

Eva Vei’s work revolves around notions of communication and intimacy within everyday interactions. Through non-linear visual narratives, she tackles issues of connection and belonging, exploring photography as a tool and as a language.

In her series, “Blyertspenna”, she builds intimacy with her cousin, Kristina, through photography. Kristina is autistic and does not communicate verbally. Vei chooses to focus on the pencil that her cousin is always holding, an item that has lost its original use and has been recontextualized as a token of comfort. Practicing sight as a way of communicating, as a different form of language, they connect in an interplay of observing the pencil and each other.
