Flowpaths – A study of movement

Handwoven digital jacquardweaves

Having my artistic background in dance, it is natural that my exam project revolves around the preservation of movement. I explore how temporary actions leaves permanent traces by letting my woven images act as vessels for the movements that my body performs during the craft process. The movements are translated and encapsulated in the unbound warp threads and aluminum wire.

The patterns of the weaves are based on my crocheted sculptures. The sculptures are abstract and their final form is reached by being responsive and following the pathways of yarn that want to take form. Crocheting can be described as soft croquis as it explores shape and stores movement, which is then transferred into the woven images.
