Hereditary Metamorphosis
This brooch is a reimagining of two hair ornaments made by my late grandfather. They hold sentimental value to my mother, as they are some of the few things she has left of him after he passed away during her childhood. I grew up without the experience of having grandparents who had little effect on my childhood, but now as an adult I find myself longing for that missed connection.
This redesign is a hybrid creature that represents two sides of myself, a spider that is prone to surviving alone and a butterfly that longs to be surrounded by a family. They are united as one to acknowledge my repressed feelings of loneliness and express my desire to want to change as a person.
