The Morning After
Wool, thread, beads and gelatin
In the absence of romance, I romanticize everything, your old T-shirt and worn-out socks. I wear them in the hope of feeling that love again, because surely it was love we had, that morning? Or was it just me who hoped too much, once again?
In my work The Morning After, I have explored the theme of romantic love, or rather, my longing, lack and desperation for romantic love. I have been inspired, among other things, by the fashion industry’s concept of “boyfriend jeans”, reality.tv and romcom films.
The result was a T-shirt and a pair of socks. Embroidered, wet-felted and covered in gelatin. They are wearable but not necessarily meant to be worn. The wool to remind you of body hair, the gelatin to give a wet feeling both in expression and when you touch them. And the pearls as a reference to wedding dresses and my favorite era, the romantic era. On the socks I embroidered the classic tube sock stripes and on the T-shirt I created the most stereotypically masculine thing I could think of: the Volvo logo. A diffuse, romantic, washed out and messy expression. Just like the socks and the shirt I borrowed from you, that morning.
