NIO50
This thesis project, NIO50, explores brand design for the ceramic studio NIO50 Keramik located in Majorna Göteborg. The company is a small-scale handicraft-based business that strives to create an environment built on community and creative freedom.
Through exploratory design methods, the project has actively searched for ways to identify the business’s qualities, values, needs, and core identity. By working through analogue methods and maintaining a hands-on, experimental approach, the project investigates how a brand identity can be developed outside of traditional, commercially driven branding practices. Through close collaboration with the studio, the designer has created a brand design that preserves the existing spirit of the business: a community driven studio with a punk inspired DIY aesthetic. The project highlights and streamlines these qualities into a viable and flexible brand identity.
The results of NIO50 are divided into physical and digital assets that together form a cohesive brand design for the studio. Company cards, posters, stamps, a ”communication cabinet”, as well as web and social media design, together form a small eco-system through which the brand identity can continue to operate, grow and blossom.
