WAIT/WEIGHT, 2026

PASSAGGIO, 2026

Two-piece sound installation: total length 12:15 min.
Quadrophonic / 4 speaker installation

Historically, queer and trans individuals have been relegated to the margins, defined by societal norms as ”other”. In the trans healthcare system, this exclusion manifests as a precarious reality: waiting times stretch for years, and eligibility for gender-affirming care hinges on a performance of ”intelligibility”.

WAIT/WEIGHT (4:45 min) recalls encounters where the artist engaged in internal counting, looping melodies, and rhythmic stimming. These gestures are translated into sound and interlaced with a cut-up and reconfiguration of a healthcare worker’s voice stating protocol legitimacy. The work asks: What else goes on in our bodies as we navigate this system? What stories and nuances are put aside so as not to risk losing care?

PASSAGGIO (7:30 min) explores voice as a site of resistance. In professional singing, the transition between chest and head voice (passaggio) is expected to be smooth and undetectable. PASSAGGIO assembles a ”choir of breakage” from recordings of the voice breaking, refusing the demands for transitioning into a recognizable gender, and the notion of life and transition as a unidirectional movement from A to B.

GUIDE FOR LISTENING: Intended for one listener at a time. The screen in the foyer signals when you may enter the room.

Silas Lilo Jensen (they/them) is a sound artist working from a neuroqueer position. With a background in gender studies and music production, their practice investigates body politics, healthcare systems, as well as trans and queer life. Through embodied listening and sonic interventions, they explore how the body resists regulatory narratives and creates alternative ways of knowing
