Making with makers – Designing through the crafts of glassblowing and wooden mold making

By spending a great amount of time in the glass hot shop as well as the wood workshop, Matilda Hansson Jessen studies how a close collaboration can be achieved between designers and artisans within different crafts. The project Making with makers investigates how the designing of mouthblown utility glass is affected by individual hands and handtools – from collaboration and practical execution in the hot shop, to the sensory experience of holding the glass in one’s hand. Curiosity is what drives the process forward, combining a practical investigation of materials and techniques with a discussion on how friendship and interplay can affect the experience of both process and result.
