“Holding water, holding doubts” is a tribute to the body, understood by the artist as the most valuable possession and the pillar of human existence. In this project, Sokołowska traces a process of transition – disconnection through sickness and reconnection through movement.
The depicted bodies and gestures seem to be dislocated, reflecting a state of instability. Simultaneously, they suggest a search for balance through motion.
The starting point of the project were photographs taken of broken statues as well as images ripped from a found medical book. These images are reimagined by the artist and embossed on aluminium plates. Aluminium is at once rigid and sensitive – under pressure, it registers even the slightest touch.
