Listen first, make later
This work is an extension of RE-Café, a grass-root initiative started in 2024, aiming to bring life to the then abandoned university café through participatory workshops and events.
Listen first, make later is a project that merges interior design with placemaking by prototyping on site in scale 1:1, allowing the process to be guided by the response of users. The result is manipulation and activation of already existing furniture, questioning why design often focuses on producing new things, rather than developing what already exists.
Together with my classmate Disa Falck, we also organized a Jazzcafé and a Wood-Whittling-Lunch to invite other students to contribute and take up space in the café. The overall aim was to facilitate user participation and strengthen connections to the space, while challenging the traditional design model in order to create a sustainable environment. The method used is manifested in a publication.
