Did you have a good time, 2026
Did you have a good time is a spatial extension of an earlier photographic project by Ji Songyin, based on found images from a second-hand camera: staged photographs of Chinese artifacts taken by an anonymous collector. The images were cut into irregular fragments and transferred onto furniture and ceramic objects. The space suggests something once inhabited and then abandoned: the gaze of a collector, an interior haunted by orientalist echoes, and the migrant experience of being treated as a curiosity rather than as company. Beneath the dust covers, the fragments and the spectacle are still there.
Working with archival images, material intervention, and the politics of looking, Ji’s practice examines how images carry and transmit cultural distortion, and what happens when that transmission is interrupted.
