Gloriya Talebi

یکی بود یکی نبود (Yeki Bood Yeki Nabood)

Yeki Bood Yeki Nabood, which translates to ‘One Was There and One Was Not There’, serves as a portal into Gloriya Talebi’s storytelling. As the timeless ‘Once Upon a Time’, the title alludes to the method of forming narratives rooted in the family archive. The three works within the exhibition give form to Talebi’s exploration of inexperienced perceivings. Bound by imagination, tradition, and symbols inherited from her Iranian heritage. The works are materialized through the shifting of mediums, such as a handwoven carpet with textile print and a solid aluminum portrait.

Through an obsession with angels, fairies and wings, archival images of her mother are used as one of the starting points to approach an embodiment of a character. Memories resurface and myths come to life.
