In my degree project, I have explored how a piece of furniture can be both stable and changeable at the same time within furniture design through the development of a modular wooden furniture system. The project focuses on how a piece of furniture can have a clear and sculptural appearance while still being flexible and able to change over time.

The result is a modular system made from identical oak components that can be combined in different ways to create several types of furniture. Using the same module pieces, the system can become a stool as well as two different sizes of coffee tables. The system is based on a repeated geometric shape where the number of modules and the choice of tabletop decide the function and size of the furniture.

An important part of the project was to create a system made entirely from wood, without screws or metal fittings. The parts are designed with interlocking forms that allow the modules to be connected to each other, making it possible to assemble, disassemble, and reconfigure the furniture in a simple way. The design process combined digital modeling in Rhino with physical prototypes and material testing to develop a construction that balances stability, precision and flexibility.

Through experiments with form, construction and material, the project resulted in a furniture system with a cohesive expression where function, simplicity, and adaptability are central. The system allows for further development into additional furniture pieces in the future.
