Summer of the Cosmos is a picture book about the night of her grandmother’s death, the blue-hatted girl meets a puppy wearing a paper bag with a sticker on its head that is rumored to be able to reverse time during a wake at the funeral parlor. She follows the puppy through the firelight and into an old alley, where memories overlap with time in an attempt to fix the past and make up for the regret in her grandmother’s life. However, she finds out that this regret is only her unwillingness. Meanwhile, the green-hatted girl tries to light a fire on the night of the ghost festival to meet her dead puppy again. The puppy also travels between the two times with its purpose.
This project is an open-ended picture book. The goal is to create a space of multiple meanings, ambiguity, openness, and co-creation between the author and the reader, allowing the viewer to assign the work a unique meaning based on their own experience and perspective. It allows readers to explore their emotions in a personal and reflective way at different points in time with different backstories.
