Designing From Within

Texten är bara tillgänglig på engelska.

This project investigates how embedded design can contribute to institutional identity through the design of a library desk lamp developed within the University of Gothenburg Libraries.

Initially conceived as a unifying lighting object for the different campuses, the project progressively evolved into a broader exploration of how design can enter, navigate and operate within institutional systems.

Through archival research, situated collaboration, material experimentation, exhibition making, poetry and user testing; the lamp became both a functional artefact and a medium for dialogue between librarians, archivists, technicians, architects, students and the public.

The project examines the symbolic relationship between light and learning and the materiality of knowledge while reflecting on the tensions between embedded specificity and institutional standardisation. Ultimately, the process transformed the lamp from a simple design object into a tool for understanding collaboration, institutional structures, and my own evolving practice as a designer.
