The concept of the monster or the monstrous is explored from multiple perspectives. The starting point was the feeling of uneasiness that comes with the migration process, a movement that brought back the desire for transformation: to be other (human and more than human). Wet felting is the technique that allows me to gather, mold, knead and question with sheep’s wool the possibility of plurality by perceiving that I am transformed into material and the material acquires the condition of subject.I tell this story from a situated thought, making the body a territory of linguistic, temporal and identity multiplicities.
I investigate the ways in which forms of domination have historically occurred through narrative processes, forming colonial imposed identities that have given way to the resistance and transformation of subjects oppressed by their race, generating as a counterpart mobile and diasporic identities. I make an analysis of different historical events in Colombia, evaluating forms of cruelty, horror and fear to understand how the liminal and memory affect present relational practices.
Being swallowed by a beast is a recurring motif in global myths, which I bring to analyze the types of social, political and personal monsters, a figure that then serves to redefine the ideas of community and collectivity. I then construct a wet felted monster with agency: an entangled surface to stand on the side of fiction as a political place where imagination becomes a tool to approach the narratives and be able to amass a collective consciousness that speculates and shapes reality.
