The purpose of this project is to reintroduce the relaxed lounging position to the home, and to develop a seating curve comfortable enough to relax in.
Since contemporary chaise lounges designed for the home are comparatively rare, I have attempted to design a product that is producible at a larger scale.
I decided to design a chaise lounge as my exam project due to a frustration with the lack of more relaxed sitting furniture in most homes. Sitting is often relegated to stricter, upright chairs, or club chairs, often mislabeled as lounge chairs.
This project explores the typology of the chaise lounge, and how it can be re-designed for the contemporary home. A part of this project is dedicated to testing different seating angles, and exploring how they relate to the chaise lounge.
