In a State of Becoming

The oyster shells were the starting point for these works. I received them as a gift and became interested in them as objects that once protected life. Now, as abandoned structures, they carry traces of time and absence. I combined them with wax, a material that behaves oppositely, soft, unstable, and constantly changing.
The sculptures are placed beneath infrared lamps that gradually melt and reshape the wax over the course of the exhibition. Some works may appear still, while others actively transform in front of the viewer. At times, only one lamp may be active, allowing a single sculpture to remain visibly “in becoming.” At other moments, all of the lamps are switched on, transforming the entire space at once through heat, light, and slow material change.
The works continue without the artist’s intervention to their form, responding to duration, temperature, and gravity. Wax slowly drips, hardens, collapses, and reforms around the shells, creating temporary states. The installation invites viewers to spend time with these subtle changes and to consider sculpture not as something fixed or permanent, but as a material process unfolding throughout time.
