Silmätylle ja Hinkauteelle – Para – Lemmen Nosto

Den här texten finns bara tillgänglig på engelska.

This project draws inspiration from old Karelian spells and their connections to material culture and modern manifestation practices. It explores the intersection of traditional Karelian incantations and contemporary craft, reimagining protective embroidery and manifestation rituals in sculptural form. Rooted in a personal family history of spells from Karelia, the work connects symbolic language, belief systems, and material practices – using techniques such as embroidery and electroforming – to investigate how objects can act as agents of intention, memory, and transformation.

The installation centers on three specific spells: Para – to gain wealth, Silmätylle ja hinkauteelle – to avoid envy, and Lemmen Nosto – to find love. These themes have persisted throughout human history and remain deeply embedded in contemporary material culture. In a time when belief often holds more influence than objective truth, the work considers how what is believed shapes the world as much as – if not more than – what is known to be true.
