Value & Worth
This project is about the recycling of materials, reusing of resources and the circular economy within the interior design and architecture industry. The project became a collaboration with the company SWT Paper and the result is a module system designed for a lightweight circular product, made from recycled paper, called the M-board.
The production of the M-board uses about 50% less energy, and has an environmental impact of 80% lesser, compared to other board productions. It’s made from around 90% recycled material and is 100% recyclable. Despite its lightweight, it has similar quality as a MDF.
The project has been guided by the principles of neurodesign, a scientific interdisciplinary field that combines neuroscience and design. In the context of architecture and interior design, neurodesign focuses on how the brain reacts psychologically and physiologically to the built environment.
The prototype module pieces are currently made from MDF and the angled corners are made in a 3D-printer, but the goal is to produce these design ideas in a paper material, currently under development at SWT Paper.
