Naturens Ögonblick

This project takes its starting point in biophilic design – a philosophy based on the human need for contact with nature – and explores how pattern can be used as a tool to create a sense of closeness to nature in urban environments.

Through practical work with collage, textile printing, and embroidery, site-specific textile works in the form of wall hangings have been created for a wall in a building of Chalmers University.
The project can also be developed into a flexible concept, where the design is based on rectangular panels that can be adapted to the conditions of different locations, resulting in unique, spatial works.

The textile pieces have been designed based on nature’s own patterns – its forms, textures, and materials – with particular inspiration from the Swedish coast, with its cliffs, vegetation, and ocean waves. The embroidered details add a tactile quality that further enhances the feeling of nature.

The project aims to contribute to increased well-being in urban settings through nature-inspired design. As more and more people live in dense, urbanized areas, the need for closeness to nature grows – something that becomes increasingly important as cities expand. Naturens Ögonblick offers a way to integrate the positive effects of nature into our built environments, by interpreting its expressions and recreating a sense of connection to nature.
