The work ”Dream Catchers” draws inspiration from both nocturnal and daytime dreamstates. It reflects the fluidity of imagery in the subconscious, where thoughts and images seamlessly merge. By combining the photographic snapshot with slow and time consuming techniques such as knitting, Helin attempts to encapsulate fleeting impulses. Working with a slow method is a way of giving the impulse care through the process of the material. By layering materials and crossing techniques, Helin constructs her own nonlinear world from fragments of imagery and emotion.

Nicola Helin’s artistic practice spans across diverse mediums, but is always rooted in the photographic image. Her works often embody clashes, and a sense of something uncanny.
