The world has been ending for billions of years
The world has been ending for billions of years is a contemplative work, based on the idea that anything that has a beginning mustlso have an end. From that point of view, everything around us and within us can be seen as a part of the gradual, ongoing process of the world’s ending.
The work is an attempt to understand the impermanence of human life in relation to the vast and eternal universe. The photographs show surfaces and textures of natural and synthetic materials which, using light and unusual perspectives, the artist transforms into cosmic landscapes where the micro and the macro intertwine.
Mirjam Lamut uses photography as a way of thinking through creating. Her practice is rooted in an intuitive approach, in which images and installations emerge from presence, openness, and close observation.
This work was developed with the support of a scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
