Form Follows Systems
Form Follows Systems examines how working with and within systems can induce new ways of designing within the realm of sustainability. The project does this through managing systems of sustainability on different levels – macro and micro designsystems.
The interplay of systems resulted in two objects, “Aske” and “Nomad” whose starting points where strategies for reaching the UN:s sustainable development goal 12, suggested in the UNDP 2024 report.
Aske is the result of interplay between the ecosystem (macro) and a design system based on “design for disassembly” (micro). It is a chair, but also merely a materialization of it’s system, where the parts can be taken apart to be reused, recycled or repaired. The systems changeability also enables the user to change the seat to make sure it fits its current use.
Nomad is the result of interplay between a societal change (macro) and the concept of a grid (micro). It is a mobile greenhouse where the grid walls serves as a framework for gardening. It is a conversation piece challenging ideas of urban gardening and the thought of self-sufficiency as an individualist act.
As much as its materializations, the result of the project is its methodology and its insights.
