Still going to DRUM

This project invites you to reflect on how technology can enhance rather than displace human agency, preserving the important artisanal and unalienated essence in the digital age.

It uses my drumming as an embodied method to generate data for artisanal AI algorithms. This practice, mediated through hand crafted drumming robots offers an ethical alternative to dominant AI narratives by highlighting authenticity, ethics, human creativity and craftsmanship.

Speculating about a post-work society, the project envisions a future where technology supports human agency and creativity. It also addresses negative aspects surrounding artificial intelligence, such as unethical data practices, deskilling, alienation, and displacement of labor, by highlighting the ethical, embodied, and artisanal. The handcrafted shovel symbolizes how automation through ethical and fair use of AI can allow more space for personal development, freeing individuals from inequitable labor situations. It is also a statement that no matter what, I am still going to drum.
