Hälla – en dagbädd i nuet
“Halla sig” is an old Swedish expression for resting – it simply means to lean back for a moment. My grandfather used to say, “Just gonna lean back for 10 minutes” after milking the cows early in the morning.
As a child, I found the phrase strange, but I understood what he meant – and that moment became a strong childhood memory and the beginning of Hälla.
The daybed as a piece of furniture has existed for thousands of years – from ancient Greece and Rome to today’s homes and offices. It has survived fleeting trends and remains a timeless and functional space for rest. In a time when stress, burnout, and constant connectivity have become the norm, the need for rest is greater than ever.
Hälla is my interpretation of the daybed, inspired by the Swedish folk design – a furniture style that blends function, feeling, and sustainability. Made from solid wood, using traditional joinery, natural colors, and no unnecessary fittings, I’ve built a piece designed to last for generations.
