På gräsmattan ligger djuren i halvor
I wish that my skin consisted of hundreds of windows, so that I could look inside from time to time in different places and see that everything is working as it should. I wish that I had the ability to open myself up when inexplicable pains come over me and comfort the panicked nerve.
This project explores the inside of my body; its lumps and fluids. This is my way of visualizing these materials in combination with textiles. By creating textile abjects of myself in the form of slugs, I have explored themes such as wounds, chronic pain, invasiveness, power, cancer and care.
I have used the slug, a body that is opened up in gardens. Its wound has been my portal into the body during the project. The slugs in my work have a similarity to the living body, not in appearance, but in function. The slugs have bodily fluids that ooze out, skin that show signs of age and wounds that leave scars.
The work shows an attempt at regaining control that manifests in chaos. A desire to feel trust towards one’s own body. A desire to be able to trust the systems that society has built. An acceptance and an embrace of the uncontrollable.
