Tactile Light – Lod

Tactile Light – Lod is a project that explores how a lamp – an object typically static and predictable – can be activated through movement.
The focus is on how form can suggest function without the need for instructions, buttons, or screens. The installation consists of pendulating fixtures, each with its own sensor. When a fixture is set in motion, it lights up. When the movement stops, the light fades. The light is directed upwards and reflected by the ceiling, creating a soft light and visible shadow play in the room. The shape is based on the plumb bob – a simple tool that has looked more or less the same for thousands of years, and is still used today to indicate vertical direction through weight. In this project, it has been reinterpreted as a lighting fixture. The aim has been to create a lamp that sparks curiosity and invites interaction. Not through instructions, but through form, movement, and presence. Since it only activates when someone is there, and encourages a more physical relationship with the object, it may also support longer-term use – where you want to keep it, rather than replace it.
