BOTEH NOOR

BOTEH NOOR is a table lamp that explores the meeting between traditional Persian design and Scandinavian aesthetics in contemporary Swedish homes, regardless of background. By working with the Boteh pattern, originating in Iran, the goal has been to create a lamp that also carries cultural symbolism. The pattern, often called Paisley, is here reconnected to its roots and reinterpreted in a modern context.

The lamp is made of birch plywood with a shade that carries a laser cut Boteh pattern. When the lamp is turned on, a subtle play of shadows is cast around it. The project has grown out of a desire to make Persian culture visible in everyday objects and contribute to a more inclusive design world where more expressions and backgrounds can take place.

As an extension of the lamp, a brochure has been produced. It provides insight into the project’s background, purpose and process, and contains brief facts about Boteh and how it has been interpreted in a new contemporary context. This is to deepen the understanding of the message behind Boteh Noor.
