Branch Blocks is a building toy made from real tree branches, joined using traditional Chinese mortise and tenon structure. Each piece is unique in shape and texture, allowing children to build freely, explore creatively, and connect with nature through play.
Designed for open-ended, hands-on learning, the toy encourages kids to think imaginatively, work together, and discover the joy of natural materials. By using sustainably sourced wood and handcrafted joinery, Branch Blocks also introduces children to basic ecological and cultural values — without any screens or batteries.
After 4 rounds of iterative testing with 33 children aged 5-12, the toy received an enthusiastic response. Kids loved the feel of the wood and enjoyed building everything from animals to abstract sculptures. Whether played alone or in a group, Branch Blocks offers a meaningful and playful way for children to slow down, get creative, and rediscover the wonders of the natural world.
